Do young children go to Heaven when they die even if they have not received Jesus Christ as their Savior? |
I believe the answer is yes. You may have heard the term "age of accountability." Even though this is not a biblical term, it basically refers to a time when a child really understands the difference between right and wrong and that he has a choice. At this time, as they are presented with the message of salvation (John 3:16; Romans 10:9, 19), they can make a knowledgeable decision (as simplistic as it might be). Of course as they grow older and learn more of the Lord, their walk with Him will be more obvious (just as it should be with all of us). So prior to the time that they are able to make this choice, God does not lay to their charge what they have no ability to understand. Children are very important to God. It is obvious from the following scriptures that He does not see them as sinful, dreadful, hell-bent beings before they come to an understanding of receiving Jesus as Saviour (Psalm 127:3-5; 147:13; Matthew 7:7-11; 18:1-5, 10; 19:13-15; I Corinthians 4:14; Ephesians 6:4; Colossians 3:21; I Thessalonians 2:7). God shows us throughout scripture and specifically in Deuteronomy 11:19 that it is a parents responsibility to train their children "You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up."
