What does God’s voice sound like? Is it biblical to expect to hear Him?

Concerning God's voice speaking to us today, most of the time, it sounds like our thoughts; but there is the accompanying feeling of warmth of the Holy Spirit confirming to our heart His Word. God will never speak to us anything contrary to the Bible. So be sure to check it out that way.

There are several places in scripture that show God speaking:

  • I Kings 19:12 (different ways God speaks -- "... still small voice...")
  • John 10:4, 27 (... His sheep hear His voice...)
  • Revelation 1:15 ("...as the sound of many waters" -- representing commanding authority)

Another test of it what you hear is from God is to present it to your Pastor or other spiritual authorities from your church (i.e., elders, deacons, etc.). Have them pray with you about it, and God will confirm it to you both, if it is from Him.
