How do I minister to someone who is suicidal? |
There are many reasons for difficulties in our lives, and often the "father of lies," the devil, will mask himself and make us think that those things were Gods plan for us, and they were not. But to take the issues of life and death in our own hands is in direct violation of the Word of God. The call of Jesus is to follow Him and not to take the path of lesser resistance. Suicide is a sin. However, to answer the question, "Is the sin of suicide one for which there is not forgiveness?" we would have to say there is no place in the Bible which supports suicide as unforgivable. Salvation is not based on our works but on the work of Jesus Christ (Romans 3:2-24; 4:5-8; 5:1-2). All believers will have to give account of their life (and death) to the Lord. No matter what the pain, discouragement, depression or other issues we may have encountered and endured. Taking our own lives is not Gods highest plans for any of us. In the wilderness after His water baptism, one of the temptations the devil placed before Jesus was to commit suicide ("If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down " Matthew 4:6), but He resisted, knowing that was not the Fathers plan for Him. I would urge anyone struggling with these thoughts to "be strong in the Lord" and to "resist the devil and he will flee from you." Retreat to the fortress of Gods love and promises for you. (King David said in Psalms 31:15, "My times are in your hands..."). Also, seek counsel from your local Pastor or Christian counselor. Resource: |
