Questions about God and sex. |
Sex is God's idea. He made us sexual beings with sexual desires and drives. But He gives guidelines in scripture intended to protect us from carnal perversions that can bind us in thoughts and actions which are harmful to us and hurtful to God's perfect purposes for us. Regarding your questions about masturbation and oral sex, they are not specifically mentioned in scripture, they are both compulsive practices of those practicing homosexuality, which is an "unnatural" lifestyle condemned in scripture (I Corinthians 6:9,10 and elsewhere). The Apostle Paul considered his body to be a potential enemy whose appetites must be controlled (I Corinthians 9:27). While no restrictions are placed on sexual activity inside of holy matrimony (Hebrews 13:4), it is to be seen as the ultimate temporal expression of Christ's love for the church (Ephesians 5:22-29). Sexual activity which is debasing or distasteful to either married partner mocks the moral law of God which commands us to "flee sexual immorality" and to "honor God with your body" as a temple of the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 6:18-20). Paul told the Thessalonians to learn to control their own bodies in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God (see Thessalonians 4:3-8; Romans 13:12-14). Besides the resources from LIVING WAY listed below, a book which will help you objectively evaluate these issues is "Love Life For Every Married Couple" by Ed Wheat, M.D., published by Zondervan.
