Who Is Jesus Talking About In Matthew 7:21-23, "Not Everyone Who Says To Me, 'Lord, Lord,' Shall Enter The Kingdom Of Heaven, But He Who Does The Will Of My Father In Heaven." |

| Who is Jesus talking about in Matthew 7:21-23? It is clear from the scriptures themselves that Jesus is talking to those that do not do the will of God (we see God's will revealed in His Word -- so they live in opposition to God's Word); and that practice lawlessness (whether this be foolishness, rebellion, or direct disobedience to the law). The footnotes in the Spirit-Filled Life Bible, of which Pastor Hayford served as General Editor, says: "Jesus warns against self-deception, a mere verbal profession of lordship without obedience to the will of God. It is even possible for a self-deluded person to exercise a spectacular ministry, using the authority of the Scriptures and of the name of Jesus, without walking in genuine, obedient discipleship." Other study notes in the Spirit-Filled Life Bible at the end of Luke say: "Jesus motivates His disciples to live righteously by emphasizing that such living comes from the heart with love and in trust, more than through observance of an external code of ethics. Consequently, New Testament wisdom reveals the differences between a correct behavior, based only on the Law, and righteous actions that proceed from the heart of a new life reborn in Christ." |
